'The Complaints' - they're the cops who investigate other cops. Malcolm Fox works in the Complaints and Conduct department, so he's not a popular man. He's just had a result, and should be feeling good about himself. But he's got problems of his own.

Now Fox is given a new task. There's a cop called Jamie Breck, and he's 'dirty'. The problem is, no one can prove it. Fox takes on the job, and learns that there's more to the Breck case than anyone thinks. This knowledge will prove dangerous, especially when a vicious murder intervenes far too close to home for Fox's liking...

FL Speak - Yay! A cop novel for me. That's a first :D

And the Complaints might be the best life a non-action cop can have. You're obviously a head detective. Ad you get to play with cool gadgets and be the spymaster...oohlala. Malcolm Fox is a part of the Complaints and as the summary says, they investigate other cops. So there is no surprise that he is hated. I mean, c'mon, you do not snitch on your own. But cop or not, its their job to investigate. I mean, without them, who guards the guardians??

So when Malcolm is asked to investigate another cop named Breck, the real shit hits the floor. His sister's partner has been brutally murdered and the other cops are hoping to find proof that Malcolm did it. Yes people, the Complaints are hated by the real cops. Malcolm meets Breck and during the ongoing investigation on both the murder and Breck himself, they realize they're being set up for something big. Something so grand that they both might end up losing more than their careers.

With our dynamic duo being suspended and without knowing whom to trust, Breck and Fox stumble into blind alleys from Edinburgh to Dublin. To make matters worse, the disappearance of the victim's boss and an old suicide threatens to make the situation more confusing. With time running out of hand and cops breathing down their necks, Fox and Breck brings out their A-game and boy, they take the fight to the finish.

I don't know how I missed Ian Rankin all my life. This guy is a genius. His books makes me want to read them again and again. He has written more than 30 books and this is the absolute first time I've heard of him. Under which rock was he hiding for so long??? Absolutely wonderful characters in this one, it kind of made me think of Harrison Ford as Malcolm Fox. Loved it! Its funnnnny, its full of action, the job in Complaints...gosh! I wanna work there...spying on people :D

Overall, read it whenever you see it.
